Benefits of Early Education — Why Start Your Child's Education in Preschool?

Milena Hołownia-Dudzińska · Preschool staff ·

Early education is the foundation upon which a child’s future development rests. Much research shows that the earlier we begin working with a child — already from age 2.5 — the more benefits they gain from education. Preschool curricula aligned with the Polish Ministry of Education (MEN — Ministerstwo Edukacji Narodowej) framework introduce little ones to the world of peers, daily rhythm, and learning through play. That is why it is worth considering why to send your child to preschool from the youngest years.

Social development

In preschool, children learn how to function in a group. Building relationships with peers, learning cooperation, sharing, and conflict resolution are skills that will have a huge impact on a child’s future life. Through daily interactions in a group, the child shapes their social competencies and becomes more open to others.

Support in emotional development

Early education allows children to understand and express their emotions. Preschool teachers help children recognise their feelings and teach them how to cope with emotions constructively. This is extremely important because children who can manage their emotions are more confident and experience less stress in new situations. In our practice we draw on the Positive Discipline method (Jane Nelsen, in the tradition of Alfred Adler) and a daily Circle Time during which children name their emotions and practise TUS (Trening Umiejętności Społecznych — Social Skills Training) under the guidance of a child psychologist.

Cognitive and intellectual development

Educational activities in preschool support children’s cognitive development. Through games and tasks matched to their age (3–6), children develop their thinking, concentration, memory, and creativity skills. Introduction to basic mathematics (our in-house Matema/Nemi programme), language, reading, and writing through play — using the Jolly Phonics method for English and TPR (Total Physical Response) — makes it easier for children to acquire new skills.

Strengthening motor skills

Daily active games, dances, and manual exercises support the development of both gross and fine motor skills. In preschool, children have the opportunity to practise their physical abilities, which translates into better movement coordination, balance, and manual dexterity. At our facility, sports classes are led by Robert Rostek — a graduate of AWF (Akademia Wychowania Fizycznego — Academy of Physical Education) in Warsaw — combining elements of judo, gymnastics, and dance, while the Sherborne Developmental Movement method supports little ones in building body awareness from their first year in the nursery.

How we do this at our preschool in Saska Kępa

At Przedszkole i Żłobek Siedmiu Krasnoludków on ul. Irlandzka 7 in Saska Kępa (Praga-Południe district, Warsaw), early education is a coherent system in which every developmental domain has concrete methods and concrete people responsible for it. The day begins with Circle Time led by director Karolina Anioła (a certified TUS and Positive Discipline trainer), continues with sessions led by a native speaker between 9:00 and 13:00 (full language immersion), and afternoons are filled with ceramics workshops run by Piotr Choma (a graduate of PWSFTviT — the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School) and play pedagogy in the Klanza tradition together with music inspired by the Orff method. Families using the government Aktywnie w żłobku programme (PLN 1,500/month) gain real financial support, making early education more accessible for families from Kamionek and Grochów. Preparation for school

Early education is also about preparing a child for future schooling. Children learn responsibility, time management, and settle into the rhythm of regular educational activities. Children who attend preschool up to age 6 (before primary school) find it easier to navigate the school education system and adapt to new challenges more quickly. We build school readiness deliberately — combining Positive Discipline, Sherborne, and Klanza within the MEN core curriculum framework.

Building a sense of security

Preschool is a place where children feel safe and loved. A supportive and empathetic environment gives children a sense of stability and self-confidence. Children know they are surrounded by people who care about their wellbeing and development.

Developing passions and interests

In preschool, children have the opportunity to discover new passions — whether through art, music, sport, or learning. Preschool is a place that creates space for creative development, which is of great importance in shaping a child’s interests and talents.

In summary, early education is a tremendous investment in a child’s future. Thanks to preschool, children not only gain knowledge but above all learn to live in a group, understand emotions, and develop positive habits. It is the foundation upon which successes in later life are built — both social and educational.

It is worth remembering that at Przedszkole i Żłobek Siedmiu Krasnoludków in Saska Kępa, children aged 2.5–6 develop in an atmosphere of joy, love, and support, and every day is a new opportunity for learning and play.
